Does Osama bin-Laden Need a Publicist?

I couldn't resist linking to this amazing headline from the USA Today. Apparently the move is to a kindler, gentler al-Quaeda?

I wonder how the community over there generally regards him? A friend of mine recently posited that David was the Osama bin-Laden of his time (the comparison was in the context of how acceptable violence is from a Christian standpoint, not in the relative equality of their characters). Is Osama's appeal is as broad as outlaw-David's was? How much should we care about his popularity?
